Bookmarked

I recently a did a little update to our living room, I sewed some new pillows, and added a new color scheme { navy's, greens & yellow } I'm loving the new colors and think its time to reconsider our curtains. Right now we have the Ikea White Vivain curtains hanging, which I've loved. But with our greige walls and white curtains, things can look a ho hum some days. Plus I love how dark brighter curtains look in rooms that gets a lot of natural light, just like Avery's nursery. I bookmarked a few ideas, and like the look of the solid curtains against light walls.

Another idea I've been thinking about is patterned curtains, which would look good and add more color in our living room. I like that patterns add another layer of interest and almost feels like artwork on your windows.

If we end up going with a solid color, I'm thinking navy linen will look nice. I like the look of linen, its pretty and light filtering. As soon as we decide I'll be ordering some fabric and making curtains. Here's a quick reminder of how our living room currently looks.

See, were in need of more color STAT.

What do you prefer white curtains, solid darker brighter curtains or patterned curtains? And Why?

  1. Right now I have patterned white curtains. I feel like they are so boring against the light walls. But I don't want anything to darken the space, so they stay for now.

  3. I have light gray walls in my living room with dark patterned roman shades and I love them, so I'm in favor of bold curtains with a cool pattern! Colorful solid curtains work very well in bringing extra color. I do like white curtains in rooms with a bold color on the walls, though.

  4. I love color! I had bright orange curtains in the dining room of my last house. Recently I bought turquoise curtains to go in my yellow dining room. I'm trying to decide whether to get gray, white or patterned curtains my family room which is painted orange.

  7. First time poster and recent lurker also in the Sac area and I'm definitely interested what you choose. I have yellow walls and dark brown colonial windows. I would love a big pattern but I'm afraid that it will compete with the dark grid pattern. I'm also leaning towards linen curtains and I'm curious on where you'll purchase the linen from if you go with that. Not to ramble on but I have large windows and I'm thinking of purchasing linen sheets so they are wide panels.

  9. Hi Teresa, so coolb you also live in the Sac area :) I've been looking all around for a good price on linen fabric, since it can get pricey fast and most likely will buy from Fabric.com. I think the fabric I was looking at is 55in. wide, which works perfectly since the panels will just hang on either side or the window.

I recently bought linen panals from Ikea for 49bucks - such a good deal!! They have them in white, natural and 'artichoke pear' The pretty wide I think 60+ inches. The linen is pretty thin, but if needed a lining can be added on the cheap.

  10. With your solid furniture pieces you could definitely go with a pattern, it would look really fabulous.

  11. Right now we have plain, white curtains. I am actually thinking of a change as well! I am wanting mostly white curtains with a pop of green in them and perhaps some pattern. Too bad I haven't seen anything I like yet. Haha.
