I'm Katrina! Welcome to my blog Chic Little House. When I see a pretty space I love, my heart beats a little happier with joy. I love to create and surround myself with pretty things. I'm a Northern California native, living in Sacramento, California, with my husband and two sons.
We bought our 1956 Rancher in 2009 and quickly began renovating our every square inch of our home. We painted the exterior ourselves, refinished the original hardwood floors ourselves, installed in updated light fixtures and painted every room. In June 2012, we kicked off a kitchen remodel, installing new counter tops and purchasing a new stove.
In July of 2012 our home was badly damaged in fire, displacing my family for a year. With determination, faith and patience, our family took a sour situation turned it around and rebuilt a home we absolutely love. During the rebuilding of our home, we made thoughtful improvements to the original layout, while maintaining the charm that originally 'sold' us on our home.
In addition we gained additional square feet on little Rancher with the addition of an indoor laundry room, master bathroom suite with walk in closet and a pair of french doors leading to a private patio. My family has faced highs and lows and even been 'though the fire' together, always remembering to appreciate the sunshine and celebrate life, even when battling the rain.
My goal is share my love of DIY, design, creating and all things home, in hopes it will encourage and inspire others to stir up their own passion and creativity. My husband and I have appeared on The Nate Berkus Show for their House Proud segment, sharing with viewers creative budget friendly ideas to incorporate in thier own home. I've written an article for Garden Design Magazine for their 'What Makes a House a Home' series. Our home was recently featured in the October 2014 issue of HGTV Magazine, in the House Tours section. Now that I'm back in my home, I'm back in my happy place. I'm always juggling multiple house projects: looking at paint chips, fabrics swatches and scouring thrift stores for amazing furniture to bring home and refinish and looking for deals. I believe you can create a lovely unique home on a budget, that reflects your personality and speaks to you. As the saying goes, your home should rise up to greet you and make your family and friends feel good when they walk into the door. I'm happiest when I'm creating, please join on my house to home journey.
