I feel that bamboo roman shades add so much warmth and texture to shared living spaces and look amazing layered under draperies. Here are a few examples of bamboo shades, I'm totally smitten with.

Since bamboo lined roman bamboo shades can be very pricey as most custom window treatments are, my plan is to be in stock shades and add privacy lining to the back of the roman shade. The lining would help give them a more finished look, while controlling light when closed. While I love the ease (light filtering, privacy etc) of our current setup of blinds on the windows mentioned above, they're also cumbersome and heavy and give off a sterile vibe. The exact opposite of what bamboo shades give. I'm the type of person who loves having their windows and blinds open all day letting fresh air inside and natural light, but since our blinds are so heave to raise, I find myself only opening them. Plus once the blinds are fully raised they stack super thick. I keep going back and forth between making the change to roman shades, or sticking with what we have.
For now, I'll keep pinning lovely images and be on the lookout for well made bamboo shades that I can customize.
Which type of shade do you prefer in your home? Mini blinds, Vertical Blinds, Faux Wood Blinds or Roman shades? And why?

I've never been a fan of mini blinds, but I love faux wood blinds and Roman shades. We have bamboo shades in our family room and I love the texture that it adds to the windows paired with curtains. You have gorgeous taste so I know whatever you decide it will be California-chic!!!
ReplyDeleteBrandi, that's exactly the look I'm hoping to achieve! I so wished I would have decided that last year, before installing blinds on windows! Hindsight is always 20/20 and yes lets hope it feels very Cali-Chic once we update our windows! lol :)
DeleteMini blinds are a bit dated for me, but I absolutely bamboo shades and faux wood blinds. Thats what we have all throughout the house. If I could change, I probably would do bamboo, as I looove that second image. I'm sure that whatever you decide will be perfect.
ReplyDeleteErin, Love the second image too! Totally feel like mini blinds should be banded, I've always hated them! lol
DeleteI have all o the above but i think I like the bamboo the best as they add a lot of texture to a space and the light that filters thru them is so soft and pretty.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly why I love bamboo shades too :)
DeleteI love the look of bamboo shades, but I really hate operating them. Faux wood blinds are just easier to open and close, I find shades to be more fussy with the opening and closing process...getting them even, and they have to be open or closed, where blinds can be 'down' but twisted open. I just think blinds are easier. I just put some Allen + Roth shades up in our bedroom and I never close them because they are a pain!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you about getting Roman shades to align perfectly after being opened! Beauty is a pain, right :) lol
DeleteI love bamboo shades too! I have 6ft wide windows so they would be too heavy for me to use. I have to use faux shades and draw the curtains close.
ReplyDeleteThe weight of our faux wood blinds, make it so hard to want to leave them open! I might end up using two smaller bamboo shades for my windows....totally still in the thinking phase lol
DeleteI love the look of bamboo shades layered with fabric panels. To me its the best of both worlds. Plus I like to leave by panels open and the bamboo shades provide privacy.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly, how I'm picturing our living room window - its still a toss up what will happen in our dining room & master bedroom windows!
DeleteI love the look of bamboo shades but HATE HATE HATE ours in our house. I got them at Penney's and they are so horrible. I meant to line them and never got around to it, so they let in way too much light. And the cords are constantly breaking. I do love the look, but I'd go back to the roman shades in our last house in a heartbeat if I could.
ReplyDeleteThat's so disappointing to hear the ones from JCP are a huge let down! I picked up the basic Roman shades for our kitchen, Avery's room etc from JCP - they can be annoying to open and close, but thankfully no broken cord issues. Thanks for sahring this, I most likely was going to order bamboo ones from them
DeleteI love how you have not only the bamboo shades, but you also have the wicker furniture and the natural floor theme going on with it. I like also how you did everything yourself. I am excited to apply this to my home. blinds
