We've been microwave free for two years and I don't miss having one. Since our kitchen is small [ visit our kitchen after here ] I love having only the essentials out which include, my Kitchen Aide mixer, large glass containers, our Nespresso and Kitchen Utensils and toaster. I noticed almost all the kitchens, I love and pinned are microwave free too. Below are some fabulous microwave free kitchens.

In case your wondering when its time to re-heat food, we typically use our oven or stove top, I've practically become a pro going this route. I am thinking about replacing our toaster for a Breville Mini Smart Oven, which is a perfect cross between toaster and mini counter oven, especially since it gets super hot in Sacramento, and I don't want the oven to 'heat up the whole house'
Friends, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the topic, in your home are you microwave free? Could you ever go microwave free?

I could easily do it but I do use it every once in awhile, normally to thaw foods quickly. I'm all about hiding them though. When we do our kitchen remodel, I want to put it in our pantry. It'll be right next to our fridge, so it'll be easily accessible but out of plain sight.
ReplyDeleteHi Megan, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! I think if our home had a pantry, I would totally have microwave in the pantry :)
DeleteI have been trying to figure out an alternate place (in a cabinet) for our microwave to get it off the counter, but just haven't been able to figure it out in our small kitchen. I have thought about going without a microwave; we don't really use ours a ton. But how do you make popcorn???
ReplyDeleteMy husband bought a vintage style popcorn maker brand new from a yard sale so we pop pop corn that way :) Placing a microwave in a cabinet as long as there's good ventilation is a great idea
DeleteWe chose a dual convection oven/microwave. It's in the wall above the standard convection oven, so it looks like a double wall oven (and technically it is, since it can be used as both an oven and a microwave). For us it was more functional and kept us from having a microwave on the counter or above the cooktop. I really like the microwave free look as well and hadn't picked up on that in kitchen pics.
ReplyDeleteYes, agree the built in microwave look is so much better than a microwave on the counter
DeleteI think I could possibly go microwave free, but not Ryan. we were without a microwave for about a month when we moved to the barn and it drove him crazy.
ReplyDeleteWhen we do our kitchen in the new house, we're going to stow the microwave away - not above the stove. We'll see.
lol about Ryan! I'm sure the find the perfect tucked away spot in your new kitchen for a microwave, so exciting you get to design your entire house from the floor plan up!
Deletelove your kitchen, and love your pins, but we do use our microwave a ton - I have a big family and we are not shy on leftovers hehe! We are doing a kitchen reno right now, and the micro is not going to be over the stove.. we're putting it down under the counter. Right now we have the space with a regular micro sitting there but haven't bought the new one with a surround yet. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet words about my kitchen!! Yay for a kitchen reno! I love when microwaves are tucked out of site or built in like a wall stove
DeleteWeve been microwave free for a year now and we are surprisingly not missing it much. There are times we wish we could quick warm water or a hot pocket, but overall weve been ok without it. We are thinking of adding a small one to the kitchen during the remodel.
ReplyDeleteYou should totally place a microwave in your pantry!
DeleteI have been seriously considering this, to save on space and our counters are so much prettier without it.
